The short answer is no!

You don’t need to pre-install jdk for installing Android Studio.

It’s very surprising that big Youtubers, even guys with Million subscriber tells you to install standalone JDK before Android studio.

It’s not only misguiding people, it also making the entry bar higher for beginners, as most people quit while setting up their environment.

as android documentation says https://developer.android.com/studio/intro/studio-config#jdk

A copy of the latest OpenJDK comes bundled with Android Studio 2.2 and higher, and this is the JDK version we recommend you use for your Android projects.

So you don’t need to install JDK if you’re planing develop android apps, as it. comes embedded with your Android Studio.

If you’re new to android development, I recommend you to not follow these misleading people.

Following android development docs and codelabs from google will be more than enough for you.

And if you like learning through video content, than you can follow my android development course beginner playlist.
